WHO I AM
Photo of Jess, the Second Wind Artist, with blurred shoreline background.

I'm Jess, an artist and writer.

I started off my career in graphic design, marketing, digital illustration, and copywriting. But the siren songs of paper, pencil, paint, and brush have been drifting on the wind for a while, now, and I'm embarking on a journey to rediscovering my love for making art.

WHAT I DO

I "art," of course. I work with a variety of media: watercolor and gouache, colored pencil, ink, block printing, collage, multi-media work, assemblage art, and pretty much anything else I can get my hands on. My work ranges from traditional to quirky, but all of it is connected to a sense of insatiable curiosity and an eclectic creativity.

My artistic odyssey is largely inspired by the natural world humming around me—from bugs and grasses to moss and birds, from rocks and fungi to clouds and shells. I'm crazy-lucky to make my home in Connecticut, USA, where the Connecticut River meets Long Island Sound. We have meadows, rocky shores, sandy beaches, orchards, forests—no end of interesting places to explore and things to observe.

In addition to making art, I love teaching art, and am delighted to be a member of the faculty for Lyme Art Association's online Natural Science Illustration program, where I teach nature journaling.

And I'm one of the contributing artists for the Florence Griswold  Museum's annual Wee Faerie Village event—a phenomenally fun outdoor assemblage art exhibit featuring a wide variety of imaginative artists and their interpretations of each year's new fairy village theme.
